There was probably 3-4 feet of snow on the ground at the Gold Creek trailhead, nice weather, mostly overcast, but some sun breaks here and there, no wind, and probably in the mid to high 20’s. We left the church at about 8:30am, but didn’t actually leave the trailhead until almost 10:45. There was an amazing amount of people out with cars all along the road. Our drivers got a decent hike just to park and walk back to where they dropped off the rest of the Troop. We hiked until about 12:30 when everyone was hungry.
Everyone ate some food and those that brought it had hot cocoa. The Scouts had a great time playing in the snow, battling with snowballs, and even digging a little snow cave. We headed back down the trail at about 1:30, and swung up over the top of Gold Creek Pond for some very pretty views of the pond partially covered with ice. We made it back to the cars by about 4pm, but didn’t get back home until after 6pm due to roadwork on I-90 limiting the westbound lanes to one from Bellevue to Seattle. Our round trip hiking mileage was approximately 7 miles with about 400 feet of elevation change. – MHG
