Grand Park

October 30, 2010« More activities from 2010

There was lots of trail searching and mostly trail creating while trying to hike to Grand Park. There was between 2 and 3 feet of snow on the ground, but we managed without snowshoes. We followed the wrong creek about 3/4 mile in at first, leading us to a small frozen lake just northeast of Lake Eleanor. Very pretty and fun to throw snowballs on. We then cut over to the main lake and did a little compass figuring to decide which way to continue on toward Grand Park. We stopped for lunch at about 12:45 once we hit the first meadow, then hiked up to the north edge of Grand Park by about 2pm. We had to turn around at that point in order to make it back to the church by 5:30. We did about 4 miles total and about 1,000 feet of elevation gain. Would have been nice to explore Grand Park and see the "silver forest". That means we’ll have to go back… – MHG
