Ice Axe Training

May 7, 2011« More activities from 2011

We had rainy and snowy weather, but it was not a problem for our purposes. We hiked up the slopes of the Alpental ski area to the cat track which was the practice site. We first had a discussion about gear and the parts of an ice axe. Everyone practiced three different self arrest techniques, proper hiking technique with ice axes (strong position), self belaying, kick steps, rest steps, plunge steps, and butt glissades. We made it back to the church by about 3:15pm. – MHG
