Source Lake

January 8, 2011« More activities from 2011

We got a good bit earlier start and incurred no snow park fees on this trip since we parked at Alpental. There was lots of snow on this trip, so the snowshoes were definitely needed. We made good time and hiked the 2 miles to Source Lake before noon. We ate lunch, boiled up water for cocoa, threw lots of snowballs, dug a few small snow caves, and Mr. Hogan got the Scouts to try front and back flips and somersaults into the downhill powder. Nice weather. A bit overcast, some snow, and a bit of sun during lunch. It was fun to watch people skiing down the canyon and even down the steep west side (crazy!). Camp robbers were actually landing on Scout’s heads during lunch. – MHG
