A Veteran’s Day of Leadership and Commemoration

November 11, 2023

This past Saturday, on the 11th of November, our troop engaged in a dynamic and enriching Junior Leadership Training (JLT) session. Despite lasting five hours, it was notably shorter than usual. This adjustment was a result of a new system in which the Senior Patrol Leader (SPL) and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader (ASPL) took the time to meticulously review positions with patrol leaders and others, fostering a respectful and comprehensive understanding among the team.

The impact of the session was profound, as everyone present walked away with valuable lessons. The day was filled with engaging games and thoughtful discussions on strategies to become better leaders. The excitement within Elliot’s leadership team for the upcoming term was evident, reflecting the positive outcomes of the training.

In addition to JLT, our troop proudly took part in a flag ceremony with Pack 282 at the esteemed American Legion Hall, marking Veterans Day. The significance of the event was not lost on the West Seattle Rotary Club, who expressed their deep appreciation for our participation. The flag ceremony itself was concise yet powerful. Following this, attention shifted to the installation and dedication of the Peace Pole, now prominently displayed outside the hall.

The ceremony was initiated by Elliot, our new SPL, who led everyone in a heartfelt Pledge of Allegiance. The solemnity of the occasion was beautifully concluded by Eden, playing Taps. Both events were met with a substantial turnout, underscoring the community’s support and respect for these meaningful traditions.

As we reflect on a weekend filled with leadership insights and meaningful commemorations, the spirit within our troop remains high. It’s evident that these experiences have not only strengthened our bonds but have also left an indelible mark on our collective commitment to leadership and community involvement. We look forward to carrying this momentum into the upcoming term, inspired and ready for new challenges.
